A week in Colombia -- the definitive Colombia itinerary by Editor, RoughGuides.com
Home to a rich history, stunning scenery and some of South America's friendliest people, Colombia is poised to become one of the most diversely appealing traveller hotspots in the world. The country is safer than it's been in decades, with the only armed personnel you're likely to encounter being friendly young army officers that man frequent checkpoints on main roads.
Whether you're taking advantage of JetBlue's super-cheap new service to Bogotá, or flying in from anywhere else in the world, any Colombia itinerary is going to need to be at least a week to soak up all the cumbia, jugos naturales (fresh-squeezed juice), colonial architecture and warm welcomes.
Cartagena
Day 1: The Old City and around AM: Slap on some fetching sandals and hit the cobblestones, because on foot is the most convenient and enjoyable way to slip into Cartagena life. Amble from plaza to plaza on bougainvillea-vined streets, pausing before the hushed roar of fountains or to sip a tinto (tiny cup of sweet coffee) on one of the ever-present park benches. Don't miss the bootylicious Botero sculpture in Plaza Santo Domingo, while if you're not heading on to Bogotá, the Museo de Oro warrants a visit. PM: Start off your night with a frosty bottle of Club Colombia at an outdoor table at El Bodeguita del Medio, right off the Plaza de la Aduana. Later, head to one of the many bars and clubs that line Calle del Arsenal in the gritty but lively Getsemaní neighbourhood for more serious dancing and drinking. Don't even think about arriving before midnight.
Day 2: Las Islas de Rosario AM: Arrive early at the Muelle Turistica to secure a spot on a small boat to the crystal blue waters of Las Islas Rosario for some sun. Thirty-four dollars will get you a round-trip boat ride to Playa Blanca, plus a messy, tasty lunch of fried fish, patacones (smashed, fried plantains), coconut rice, and salad. Snorkelling costs about $12 extra. PM: The most affordable delicious dinner in the city can be had at Oh! la la Cafe Restaurant in Getsemaní, which brings together the native cuisines of the Colombian-French couple that own and run it.
Day 3: Colonial Cartagena AM: The wall that surrounds the city is a UNESCO Heritage Site. Climb up and meander along it, taking in long, lovely views of the ocean and admiring the city's impeccably preserved Spanish architecture. PM: Walk or cab it to the hulking Spanish fort of Castillo de San Felipe, just outside the city walls. To keep the local tour guides afloat, there are no signs describing the history and significance of this monument. Either delight in how the bare precipices, cannons, and unmarked passageways bring your pirate siege games to life, or hire one of the knowledgeable guides sure to approach you.
Santa Marta and Parque Nacional Tayrona
Day 4: Santa Marta, city by the sea AM: No Colombia itinerary would be complete without a trip to Tayrona National Park. Buses to the laid-back jumping-off point, Santa Marta, leave hourly (costing $20) and Berlinas has some of the most modern and well-outfitted vehicles. The chances of there being snacks and beer available for sale on board are good. Count yourself blessed if a string of music videos from sequin-suited 70s crooner Camilo Sestos figures in! PM: What, do you never rest? Hunker down for a bit at Hotel Nueva Granada, the best mid-range budget hotel in town. Soak in the Caribbean moonlight from the small pool in the courtyard then go check your email for free. For a wild night out, hop on one of the shuttle buses running regularly to nearby Taganga, a tiny fishing village. Ask around for directions to El Garaje, where both locals and foreigners dance like they mean it in the low, tropical light of a palm-thatched gazebo.
Day 5: Jungle beach paradise AM: Catch a local city bus heading for Parque Nacional Tayrona. 35km of bumpy jungle road and a 3.5 km hike later, a dazzling beach emerges. Whether you plan to spend the night in a hammock, tent, or super-luxe cabin, be sure to bring cash. In the few miles of "inhabited" park -- all of it right on the beach -- there are just three places to eat, and only one accepts credit or debit cards. PM: Once you've stowed your personal effects, take to the sand and just keep walking. Each beach offers a new attraction: social hub, protected cove, perfect bodysurfing waves, and even nude sunbathing. Marvel at the giant leaf-cutter ants, and the prehistoric feel of the large rocks piled haphazardly along each beach. Then buy a bottle of rum and make friends with the small crowd surrounding the guy with the guitar.
Day 6: Indigenous Tayrona AM: Hike to Pueblito, the ruins of a village of the indigenous Tayrona people. One family lives there as a sort of living relic among a large number of terrace dwellings. During the steep uphill climb, that's as challenging as it is exhilarating, keep an eye out for elusive howler monkeys. PM: Treat yourself to the significantly more upscale (but only slightly pricier eats) at the Aviatur restaurant near Arrecifes Beach.
Day 7: Homeward bound AM: Hike back out to the road and hop on a bus back to Santa Marta, and then head on to Cartagena. Cab it to the airport; your glutes will thank you after yesterday's exertions. PM: You've got a flight to catch! Don't forget to bring back the bottle of the local firewater, aguardiente, for your jealous, jealous friends.

You cannot go incorrect with all the small ones within the family members as they will look gorgeous whatever you dress them in, but, because it is Christmas, you are able to pick out from such classics as angel, elf, snowman, reindeer and small Miss Santa. Let us start off by taking a search at fairies.
INFANT SUGAR PLUM FAIRY - Cute beyond words is what your little sweetheart will appear like in this fairy costume. They are traditionally pink and/or purple in colour and created up of lightweight shiny material shaped into petals to type the dress. Divine tiny curled-up toes set off the tiny green booties. Fairy wings are a must-have together with the adorable flower and leaf-style headpiece. Regrettably, there's no guarantee your little darling will preserve the headpiece on so take images early and understand that the well-being of one's small a single is paramount - usually put them in outfits which they can be comfy in when they are prepared to get a nap. The dress itself is so lightweight, as a result it is actually pretty comfy to put on. Your little girl are going to be a true little scene-stealer in this fancy dress.
Small GIRLS' DISNEY PRINCESS - Our darling daughters have loved dressing up as soon as they could walk and the Disney Princess costumes are just just lovely with all the Princess Tiara, from the Princess as well as the Frog, Cinderella and Princess Aurora, the Sleeping Beauty, to choose from. The Aurora costume is really a stunning creation with pink getting probably the most well-known colour. Typically ankle length, the skirt is shaped and layered from a fitted bodice. Some of these can be pretty beautifully comprehensive with braiding and jewels. Prolonged and sheer or quick and puffy sleeves appear to become the preferred possibilities. Yet again, this can be the fantastic costume to add that dab of glitter around the cheekbones for a great impact. Adding plain or glittery pink ballet-style shoes or slippers as well as a jewelled crown will have your little girl melting everyone's hearts. TIP: If she decides she doesn't want a crown, then a pink sequinned hair band wouldn't appear out of spot.
YOUNG MUMS' FLUTTERY FAIRY - For the young at heart mum who wants to be fluttery and feminine, you may leave hubby breathless within the knock-out fairy costumes about. Pink remains common with this distinct style dress, featuring embroidered detailing, with gathered tulle trim as well as a layered underskirt in a rainbow of colours! Matching sheer fairy wings along with a wand are must-haves. This amazing style is delicate and super gorgeous. Prolonged flowing hair may have numerous believing you've just dropped from heaven.
YOUNG LADIES' GLITTERY WITCH - While it is actually Christmas, as soon as our small ladies have created up their minds about anything at all you just can't budge them and you will come across that not all of them choose to be a fairy princess or an angel. Tend not to panic as there are some stunningly elegant and incredibly sparkly gorgeous witches' outfits close to. Black would be the obvious base colour and these costumes are then overlaid with numerous coloured tulle materials shaped in points on the edge of your dress. Adorned with sequins, it makes for any spectacular search. Add some plain black ballet-style slippers as well as a super tall black glittery witch's hat to see your daughter casting a magical spell above everyone.
GRANDMA MRS CLAUS - We just can not leave grandmas out, can we? And we have to not forget that they could possibly prefer to join inside the festivities and dress up, also, while mulling over their wine and tucking into mince pies. Having a broad variety of Santa outfits to pick from, comfort is probably all-important so grandma can take her choose from best and pants or dress style. If she feels like going the whole hog, then why not add a conventional Mrs Claus cosplay wig and glasses? Cozy red slippers wouldn't appear out of location and would set off the outfit a treat. Try some red sparkly ones for effect.
